Doing Veganuary? Workshops at Darley Street Market offer help with vegan diet

by vegabytes

THINKING of going vegan this month? A series of workshops in Bradford is offering all the advice you’ll need.

Darley Street Market, FoodSavers Network and Living Well have joined forces to help those wanting to try out Veganuary.

Free workshops at the Bradford Council-run city centre market are aimed at making taking on a vegan diet that bit easier. The workshops will include cookery demonstrations and practical tips, inspiring us to make tasty new year treats such as Jamie Oliver’s aubergine stew, and his sweet potato chilli.

There will also be contributions from Leeds University, promoting its Healthy Soil, Healthy Food, Health People campaign, and the market welcomes back chef Imogen Tilt from The Hawthorn in Haworth, who was one of the guest chefs at the opening of Darley Street Market in July last year.

The workshops will take place every Wednesday in January from 11.30am to 1.30pm outside the Wellnest on the Fresh Food Floor of Darley Street Market. Just turn up to take part.

Alongside the weekly workshops will be a nature-themed vegan cupcake decorating workshop at the market on Saturday, January 24vfrom 12noon to 4pm. The hands-on interactive workshop will be delivered by Emma from Eden Pie, a plant-based dessert offer in Saltaire.

Soraya Overend, Inn Churches Chief Operating Officer, said: “Veganuary is always a big month in the culinary calendar and, for those who have never tried going meat-free for a month before, we’re on-hand to make it simple and tasty!”

Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “Darley Street Market is the perfect place to help you eat more healthily, whether that’s trying out Veganuary or during the rest of the year. Hopefully these exciting workshops will help inspire you with new recipes, and the food traders on the Fresh Food Level are on hand with many of the fruits, vegetables and ingredients you need to make them. If you don’t fancy going vegan or even vegetarian, there are still lots of tasty options on offer at our markets.”
